You might think there isn't much to learn about this vehicle. After all, you've been hearing about its family-friendly attributes for several years now. For 2013, however, the Explorer is more powerful and appealing than ever before.

For 2013, the Ford Explorer comes in three trims: base (with a starting price of $28,870), XLT (with a starting price of $32,345), and Limited (with a starting price of $37,855). New features include: a new front-passenger knee airbag for all trims, a more-easily adjustable hated steering wheel, and a lane departure warning system for the Limited trim, and automatic high-beam control for the previously available xenon headlights. Overall, this year's Explorer boasts an upscale cabin, plenty of new high-tech features, superb riding and handling balance, and a fuel-efficient turbocharged EcoBoost four-cylinder (optional). The standard engine is a 3.5-liter V6 flex-fuel engine that produces 290 horsepower and works in tandem with a six-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel-drive is standard, but 4WD is available and includes Ford Terrain Management System with four selectable driving modes.
