Ford Surpasses Goals for EcoBoost Engines by 100-Thousand Units

American auto brand Ford knows how to set goals and how to surpass them, as the automaker has proven with its new Ford EcoBoost engines. As the Detroit Free Press reports, company sales for the vehicle have been outstanding for the direct-injected, turbocharged engines. The new engines are in a large variety of Ford vehicles and its luxury brand Lincoln's vehicles, like the Lincoln MKT to the Ford Focus ST and the 2013 Ford Escape.

Ford will reportedly sell around 1.6 million vehicles featuring the forced-induction engines in 2013, which exceeds previous estimations by an incredible 100,000 units.  These smaller, more efficient EcoBoost engines will make the company's lineup more fuel-friendly and will lessen the number of platforms the company utilizes worldwide and, therefore, also cut costs tremendously.

It's also worth pointing out that, according to Autoblog, "Ford product development chief Raj Nair claims that the automaker is on track to clip its platforms from 22 in 2011 to 10 by 2017. The move should save Ford hundreds of millions of dollars as platform costs drop as scale increases."1
