Car Sharing has been part of the big picture in Europe for more than 3 decades already. In North America, after starting in Quebec in 1994, it is now a growing industry in the U.S. Nowadays, we can find more than 27 car sharing programs in the U.S. with more than 500,000 members spread across the large cities.
Thanks to a recent partnership with Zipcar, Ford is now representing the largest automotive source for Zipcar's University Program, available to students on more than 250 colleges campus across the U.S. Over a period of two years, the American automaker will add up to 1650 Ford vehicle to join Zipcar's fleet: up to 650 models in 2011 and up to another 1,000 the following year.
Getting in the program is easy: College student just need to get a membership. Ford is giving extra support to the program by offering a $10 rebate on the $35 annual fee to the first 100,000 new college students signing up. They will also offer a one-dollar discount to the first 100,000 students to sign up, for their first 1,000,000 hours spent sharing one of the new Ford models available in the sharing program.
