Car Sharing has been part of the big picture in Europe for more than 3 decades already. In North America, after starting in Quebec in 1994, it is now a growing industry in the U.S. Nowadays, we can find more than 27 car sharing programs in the U.S. with more than 500,000 members spread across the large cities.
Thanks to a recent partnership with Zipcar, Ford is now representing the largest automotive source for Zipcar's University Program, available to students on more than 250 colleges campus across the U.S. Over a period of two years, the American automaker will add up to 1650 Ford vehicle to join Zipcar's fleet: up to 650 models in 2011 and up to another 1,000 the following year.
Getting in the program is easy: College student just need to get a membership. Ford is giving extra support to the program by offering a $10 rebate on the $35 annual fee to the first 100,000 new college students signing up. They will also offer a one-dollar discount to the first 100,000 students to sign up, for their first 1,000,000 hours spent sharing one of the new Ford models available in the sharing program.
The Ford models offered on this program will includes the super-fuel-efficient Ford Focus and Ford Escape, available for test drive at our greater New Orleans Ford dealership.
