Ford is planning a green revolution, and to make it happen they'll need some help. That is why the American automaker has recently teamed up with SunPower will help support its "Drive Green for Life" program. We here at Veterans Ford think that this is an amazing idea. Through their partnership, the two companies will offer a 2.5-kilowatt rooftop solar panel system to be installed on a Ford owner's home when they purchase an electric or plug-in hybrid model. It will connect to the grid that recharges and monitors their Ford vehicle.
With models like the Ford Focus going electric, and rumors running rampant about an electric Ford Fiesta on the way, it isn't hard to see why Ford would make this call. It is certainly one that will attract a whole slew of new car-buyers who are in the market for a green ride.
"Ford looked at early adopters for the electric vehicle," said Daniel Pierce, Ford spokesman. "Those are also people who tend to be very passionate about the environment, and they also tend to be early adopters of solar power. This is a great way to help people 'green' their lives."1
Through the SunPower solar panel option, Drivers will, on average, receive enough electricity to power around 1000 driving miles each month. Impressive, to say the least. Perhaps the best part about this new initiative, however, is the fact that it will help power your car without wasting electricity. After all, all of the unused power from the solar panel goes right back into the grid!
"The deal itself offers solar at a drastically reduced price," Pierce added. "We found that with state and local rebates, the complete cost of the system can be as low as $5,500 in some places."2
