Ford's Smallest Engine in Company's History

With gas prices getting larger and larger, one may ask if car engine should get smaller. It seems that Ford Motors has been  thinking about that. So as a sign of time, the smallest engine Ford has ever developed in their century-plus long history, a 1.0-liter 3-cylinder EcoBoost engine will soon be launch by the auto maker.

The new three-cylinder tiny 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine is also gaining turbocharging, therefore will utilizes otherwise wasted exhaust energy and  ultimately increase output per liter of the engine.

Ford's new 1.0-liter 3-cylinder EcoBoost engine also gets direct injection, which mitigates turbo lag and knock, allowing for a more precise delivery of fuel and lowers emissions, as well as twin variable independent camshaft timing. Ford has engineered the small engine with an offset crank, a split cooling system, and an exhaust manifold cast into the cylinder, taking fuel economy to an even higher summit.

The new mini engine, originally designed at Ford's Dunton Technical Centre, in the U.K., will provide performance equal to, or better than most normally aspirated 1.6-liter petrol engines. More details should be release later this year, coinciding with the 64th International Frankfurt Motor Show, and a global launch in all small Ford cars, shortly thereafter.
